For a given function \( 𝑦 = 𝑓(𝑥) \), the average rate of change over the interval \([𝑥_1,𝑥_2]\) is calculated as: $$ \frac{Δ y}{Δ x} = \frac{f(x_2) - f(x_1)}{x_2 - x_1} $$
